Author Mel Boonstra

Mel grew up in Caledonia, Michigan later moving to Middleville, MI. He worked as a Mason (brick layer and family trade) for more than 14 years all the while taking pictures as a hobby and second career. Michigan's economy and housing market hit an all-time low and Mel sized the opportunity to close his Masonry company and open his Professional Photography business, Artography. He started his career taking pictures of everything, weddings, sports, landscape, children and families. Then while photographing his own kids during sporting events, saw an opportunity to expand his career not only in sports but to schools. It was not long after that when he started taking local schools team pictures and started booking seniors. This was a big turning point in his career because he loved the senior portraits, more so the fashion and editorial side of it. After years of shooting seniors, he started booking boudoir and models and had found his passion! Now going on 10 years of business as a professional photographer Mel has made a successful business out of doing something he not only loves but is passionate about. Glamor, fashion and boudoir are his specialty and his love of it shows in every image.
