Meet Melanie

What is the best info you can give a new model?

Don’t be a flake. Seriously. Just be dependable! If photographers see that you are a dependable model and even halfway decent to be around, they will want to shoot you. So many opportunities will open up just by you being where you say you will be and communicating effectively. Some of the prettiest girls in the world can’t get work because they aren’t dependable. Just trust me.

As a model, what would you say has been your biggest obstacle?

I wasn’t a very “girly-girl.” I didn’t like to wear a lot of makeup. I had two styles for my hair: a ponytail for almost every day and wearing it straight for a few special days in the year. As a beginner model, working for trade, you can’t afford to have someone do your makeup or hair and most photographers aren’t willing to invest in it either. You have to be able to do it yourself and of a high enough caliber to make the image live up to publication standards. I spent a lot of time watching youtube videos and reading articles. Of course, experimentation played a large part too.

If you had to walk away from modeling today, what memory would you take from it?

I would be taking away a lot of pretty pictures that I can show to my grandchildren. It will embarrass my future children to death and I will be that crazy awesome Grandma.

If you had to walk away, How would you like to be remembered?

We would remember you!
